Anime's Review - Monster

Actually, horror is not my favorite genre, but this one is different, it’s more about psychology. I have read the manga and watched the anime. The story tells about a brilliant brain surgeon, Tenma, being liked by his patients and such an honest and fine person. He believes that ‘every life is equal’.

Tenma was living in peaceful life until one day, patients arrive, a ten years old boy who got shot in his head, dying, there’s no one can save him except Tenma. The boy comes with his twin sister, who is in coma. And that time, other patient arrives, a rich person, and Tenma is ordered, by his superior to operate this rich person. But he doesn't obey the order, he just doing what he think is right, it is to save the boy’s life because he has arrived first.

Then, the boy saved, but the rich person is dead. Tenma is being blamed by his superior, but he still believes that he has done the right thing. And the other day, he is in hospital room, the boy's there, in good condition but still unconscious. Tenma is talking to himself beside that boy, he’s complaining about his job, about his superior who thought people life is not equal. He feels angry, and says something like it’s better if they are dead. But Tenma doesn't realize, when he said that, the boy who’s laid in bed is listening to him.

One day after that event, Tenma’s superiors are all dead. They are poisoned by candies. And the boy who's coma is missing with his twin sister. That’s the beginning of the story, no one knows what happened in the hospital. Tenma becames the main suspect of the murdered, because he has the motive to kill them, he hate them and since he’s the best doctor, he will get promoted.

The story revolves about how Tenma escaping from police, while hunting the real culprit. Since he has know the truth about who’s doing it, the person who has two personalities, inside that person there’s a monster!

Spoiler I:
Since Tenma has know that the real culprit is a boy he saved, named Johann, he can’t help but feel guilty, he saved a monster life who should have been killed by his twin sister. The one who shot Johann that night was none other than his twin sister, Anna. Anna, also known as Nina later, realize that Johann is a monster. Then the story revolves about how Tenma, Nina and some other people who know the truth trying to kill Johann.

It’s unbelievable for ten years old boy to kill someone easily. But Johann is a difference case, he's from 511 Kinderheim Orphanage. In that orphanage, children is being manipulated to have no emotional feeling. Johann can’t be said as a result, but a mistake, the people who create the experiment, then realize that Johann has already a monster before he comes to 511 Kinderheim. The experiment didn’t change Johann become a monster, but it’s something else. What is it? It’s in the last chapter called ‘The Real Monster’.

Spoiler II:
This is about the two last chapters. I love the part when they are all, at last, meet Johann, when he want to have suicide, by let other kill him. Tenma is ready to shoot him, but Nina is forgiving him. She knows that Johann is not himself, so she forgive him and ask Tenma not to kill Johann. Tenma is a nice person, he never and should never kill someone, that what’s Nina and other think. But that time, Johann desperates, he wants to die. Then, Johann takes a boy as a hostage, and asked Tenma to save the boy by shooting Johann. Tenma is ready to shoot Johann and save the boy. Nina screams, and the bullet comes to Johann’s head, it’s got him.

A few seconds later, everyone just realize that Tenma didn’t pull the trigger, but someone else did. (that’s the best part I think, I got exciting! :p) And who’s that person? lol. Let’s back to the time when Johann took a boy as a hostage. That time, a drunkard man is wandering around there, he’s drunk and desperate, when he sees Johann is pointing a gun to a young boy’s head, the drunkard man realizes that the boy is his son! He is like ‘oh no.. a devil trying to kill my son’ then without hesitant he shoots Johann head. That’s what happened. And the funny part is, when the drunkard man is being interrogated by the police, ‘why you shot him?’ he, still drunk, said, ‘a devil try to kill my son, he has horns!’ lol.

Johann is, again, being saved by Tenma, in same condition when he’s still ten years old, being shot in his head and dying. Nina convinces Tenma that what he did in the past, and what he do now is not wrong. He saves life.

In the last chapter, you will a little disappointed. Because the end is ‘up to you’ ending :p It doesn’t tells us what Johann do after that, it’s just tells that Johann is missing again. But I think it’s good ending, since the answer of killing a bad person is right or wrong is depends on each person. And in this last chapter you will know why Johann becomes like that. Because of an incident, Johann believes that ‘life is not equal’, since then he become a psychopath and killing people.

I love the fact that Tenma never kills anyone. He’s a doctor and still a doctor until the end. This story is telling us, even how bad you hate someone, even that someone is a really bad person, you have no right to take his/her life. At least that’s what I think.

That’s all. Thank you for reading. ^^
